In a press release today, Jewelry Television announced the publishing of a newly revised book, called the Guide to Gems & Jewelry.  This full-color educational guide — which details the histories and legends of gemstones as well gemstone formation, mining, cutting and design –  was edited by Gerald Sisk, a co-founder of JTV, who currently serves as executive vice president.  The book is scheduled for an exclusive release on JTV, Jan. 28.

Earlier this month, Gerald Sisk helped lead JTV’s first annual international Gem Congress, which brought industry experts from many countries to JTV’s Tennessee headquarters for thepurpose of promoting innovation, collaboration, and transparency within the international gemstone community.

Jewelry Television is featuring special prices daily and hourly all this week (through Sunday, Nov. 27) as part of an “Every Day is Black Friday” promotion that began on Monday.  Randy Sadler, vice president of marketing at JTV, explains the promotion this way, “The network is introducing three-tiered pricing for the event — our everyday low prices, Black Friday countdown week prices, Cyber Monday specials and doorbuster deals.”  That sounds like four different kinds of prices to me, but my mind may be addled from the excitement about all the deals.  Sadler’s more important point, perhaps, is that, “JTV will feature jewelry in price ranges to fit everyone’s budget.”  Featured items will include: include a sterling silver pink sapphire heart pendant for $23.99, a sterling silver London Blue Topaz ring for $39.99, and a 0.5 carot white diamond ring for $119.99, plus colored diamonds, pearls, tanzanite, watches, and fashion jewelry.  Jewelry Television Press Release  Nov. 22, 2011

Jewelry Television® today announced a partnership with Grammy award-winning, Christian recording artist Michael W. Smith.  Smith will perform live on Jewelry Television® on Sunday, Nov. 20 at 11:45 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. EST to promote his latest instrumental CD release, ‘Glory.’  ‘Glory’ is currently available pre-release at JTV.com and will be available in stores on Nov. 22.  Jewelry Television Press Release  Nov. 18, 2011

It, perhaps, will not surprise you that saving time and gas by shopping from home is among them.  There is also this rhetorical question, “Why not check out the deals on television while you’re basting the turkey?”  In fairness, the release does recommend scouring the web for discount codes and trying Holiday sale item aggregators like BlackFriday.com.  The release in its entirety appears after the jump. Jewelry Television (JTV) today announced a partnership with GSN Digital, the interactive division of the Game Show Network (GSN), to run sponsored game contests and sweepstakes on GSN.com, a website that features prize-driven games.

Starting today — and again in December — Jewelry Television™ will be GSN’s premier sponsor for a Jewelry Week promotion event.  First up, from From Nov. 14 to 20, is “Diamond Week,” during which players can enter daily sweepstakes and auctions, and compete in a week-long Bejeweled 2 tournament for a chance to win mystery jewelry prizes from JTV.  In addition, Jewelry Television™ will provide additional product discounts to GSN customers who make purchases on JTV.com.  JTV’s director of online marketing, Brian Wilhelm (Personal Website, LinkedIn Profile), explained the thinking behind the partnership in the release:

JTV customers are predominately female and many enjoy playing casual games online. GSN.com’s demographic closely mirrors ours so it is a natural fit … We see our partnership with GSN as an opportunity to engage a larger audience for both of our companies through this joint promotion.

The jewelry-only DRTV network made a little hay out of reaching the social media milestone in an announcement yesterday.  In it, veteran on-air presenter Heidi Kouns, seemed to be channeling HSN CEO Mindy Grossman, when she offered this quote, “It’s really important to develop a two-way conversation with our customers … Social media tools are providing valuable interaction that helps us improve our presentations and drive tune-in for our shows.”  Jewelry Television Press Release  Nov. 8, 2011

Jewelry Television yesterday announced the premiere of a new addition to its Gemstone Adventure Series collection of DVD documentaries.  Tanzanite: The One Generation Gemstone follows JTV gemologists to Arusha, Tanzania (where the stone is mined) and to Jaipur, India (where it is cut, faceted, polished).  The DVD is offered for sale at jtv.com for $19.99, plus shipping and handling.  Jewelry Television Press Release Jul. 28, 2010

The economic downturn forced a re-structuring that shrunk Jewelry Television’s workforce from 2,200 to 1,200 and the shelving of plans for a $20 million headquarters expansion in West Knoxville, TN.  Today, after the investment by erstwhile competitor Gems TV USA, Jewelry Television is optimistic about the future — although proceeding cautiously.  Here is how CEO Tim Matthews describes the measured approach, which is intended to lead to an initial public offering in 18 months, “”We’re operating the company a lot more conservatively and cautiously. I think the recession has taught us it’s important to do that and it’s prudent to that … We plan to continue our investments in people and organization and making our organization successful by doing a better job.”  Knoxville News Sentinel Jul. 10, 2010

Having closed their equity transaction with Singapore-based Gems TV Holdings, Jewelry Television executives are now mulling how best to incorporate Gems TV-style, reverse auction programming into their fixed-price format.  JTV President and CEO Tim Mattheews said, “Our number one priority at the moment is to convert Gems TV customers to JTV customers quickly and effectively … We want to earn their confidence and trust and bring them into the JTV family of brands as soon as possible.”  Jewelry Television also announced a three year extension of its bank credit agreements, which the company believes will help it return to profitability in preparation for a public offering. Tennessee-based Multimedia Commerce Group, parent company of Jewelry Television, has completed its $60 million equity deal with Singapore-based Gems TV Holdings Limited, whose U.S. subsidiary Gems TV, ceased operations and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in April.  Gems TV Holdings will receive a 32.7% shareholding interest in Multimedia Commerce Group, which expects to take the company public in the future.

“This transaction represents a positive scenario for both of our organizations, Tim Matthews, CEO and president of Jewelry Television, said in a statement.  The Gems TV investment greatly enhances our balance sheet and enables JTV to fast track our aggressive growth plan with one less major competitor.”  As part of the agreement, which closed Thursday, Jewelry Television will get a $10 million cash payment, a $10 million promissory note, $20 million in jewelry and gemstone inventory, and $20 million in intangible assets such as proprietary technologies, brand and domain names, the Internet site thaigem.com, and nearly 15,000 custom jewelry designs.  Knoxville News Sentinel (KY) Jul. 7, 2010
