OK, that’s an exaggeration, but Women’s Wear Daily certainly serves up another gushing, if brief, retrospective of CEO Mindy Grossman’s successful five-year run at the number-two shopping network.  Stefani Greenfield, chief creative officer of The Jones Group Inc., who has worked on two collections for HSN, provides the loving quote, calling Ms. Grossman “an extraordinary leader, humbly brilliant, an amazing motivator and a visionary.”  Women’s Wear Daily  Nov. 12, 2011

On Friday HSN announced that, through Christmas Day, fans of the HSN Facebook page will have a chance to “share” an ornament from the “HSN Cares” heART HSN 2011 Designer Ornament Collection and support the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®.  HSN will donate $1 to St. Jude for each person who shares an ornament, up to $100,000.

“HSN Cares”, supports women and families by raising awareness and funds for trusted organizations.  As a part of its annual campaign for St. Jude, HSN kicked off the 2011 holiday shopping season with the annual heART HSN 2011 Designer Ornament Collection, limited-edition designer ornaments, personally designed by HSN celebrities.  100% of the profits – no less than 30% of the purchase price of each ornament – is donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. HSN CEO and Self-Avowed "Shoe Lover" Mindy Grossman

HSN has piled up one successful quarter after another over the past year and shoes have been a growing part of that success.  In 2011, the retailer introduced its first 18- and 24-hour shoe sales and also collaborated with Paramount Pictures to present a footwear-focused shopping event inspired by the remake of the movie Footloose.  Interestingly, as much as 70 percent of HSN’s footwear offerings are proprietary, according to John Bosco, HSN’s SVP of apparel, accessories and jewelry.
As part of its outreach to the fashion community in recent years under the direction of CEO Mindy Grossman, HSN has partnered on footwear lines with big names, including Steve Madden, Stuart Weitzman, Vince Camuto and Mariah Carey.  “We are really maniacal about bringing our consumers products that have great personalities and stories behind them,” Grossman said.  Presumably for all of these reasons, Footwear News honored HSN with its “Retailer of the Year Award” in 2011.  Footwear News  Nov. 28, 2011

Ahh Bra on HSN’s Today’s Specials (Press Release) DigitalJournal.com - 54 minutes ago
The Ahh Bra by Rhonda Shear will be featured on HSN as a Today's Special today with airings throughout the day.  Talent selling the item will include: Bobbi Ray Carter, Helen Keaney, Amy Morrison, Diana Perkovic and Kathy Wolf.

Singer, songwriter and talent scout Mariah Carey returned to the HSN network yesterday to pitch her everything-but-the-kitchen-sink collection of jewelry, shoes, accessories, fragrance and fashion.  While ostensibly selling, she repeatedly referred or alluded to the prospect of viewers editing her appearance into mock tributes to be distributed online.  That, of course, is exactly what happened after her last appearance on the network in July.  Ms. Carey also complains about the difficulty of wearing an earpiece and demands stage direction from the control room in the middle of a presentation.  The Hollywood Reporter captures some of the amateurish spectacle in a minute-long video clip here.

Hey, Ms. Carey, you’re a star. Act like one!

Singer/songwriter Mary J. Blige will perform on HSN at 12:30 am and 10 pm EST, next Wednesday, November 30,  in celebration of her upcoming album My Life II … The Journey Continues (Act 1).  This will be the first time Ms. Blige sings — as well as sells — on the TV shopping network.  But she will still sell and those efforts will support the debut of My Life Blossom, which is a follow-up to her initial foray into the fragrance business.  That first offering, called simply My Life, made a successful debut on HSN last year and was developed in cooperation with health and beauty marketer Carol’s Daughter.  My Life Blossom — billed as “a continuation of the My Life spirit in a softer, white floral accord with a warm vanilla heart” — will be sold in Fragrance Holiday Gift Sets as a part of HSN’s 24 Hour Beauty Gift Event.

HSN’s 24 Hour Beauty Event will feature beauty gifts from brands such as: Benefit, Phillip B, Wei East, Korres, Deborah Lippmann, Lancome and others.  HSN Press Release  Nov. 21, 2011

HSN, Inc. announced this morning that CEO Mindy Grossman and CFO Judy Schmeling will participate in the UBS Global Media and Communications Conference in New York City, on Monday, December 5, 2011 at 8:30 am ET.  (The format of the session will be a Fireside Chat.)  The week before that, on Thursday, December 1st, Schmeling, will also present at the Bank of America Merrill Lynch Leveraged Finance Conference in Orlando, FL, at 10:10 am ET.  Interested parties can listen to a live broadcast (or a recording) of both presentations by visiting the investor relations section of the HSN website.

HSN, along with Condé Nast women’s publication SELF Magazine, and exercise equipment manufacturer ProForm, announced last Friday a new healthy lifestyle program called “60 Days to Healthier Ways.”

Ten winners among all of the contestants entering between now and December 9th will be selected to follow the “60 Days to Healthier Ways” program. As part of the program, winners will be given tools and guidance to help them succeed at improving their health, including: ProForm exercise equipment with iFit technology; a personalized fitness routine; a balanced diet plan; and a weekly “touch-base” training session with a SELF expert for the entire duration of the contest. Each participant’s progress will be tracked and evaluated and the transformations will be revealed during a special primetime ProForm fitness event LIVE on HSN in May 2012, when all HSN customers will be able to take part in the program themselves at home.  SELF Magazine will also feature the results in the June 2012 issue.
So, to recap: ten “lucky” winners will be obliged to undertake an exacting fitness regimen and then be judged by strangers on TV and in print.

Homeshoppingista alerts casual HSN viewers to three seemingly-new show hosts: Anji Corley, Lesley Ann Machado and Carrie Smith.

Homeshoppingista also reports that Katie Rooke, the erstwhile GemsTV and JTV presenter, has moved up in the world to a very un-GemsTV-like retailer.  She reportedly posted on her Facebook page that she is “…the newest member to the Tiffany and Co. family.”

In voluntary cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, W. P. Appliances, Inc. is recalling its Wolfgang Puck Reversible Tri-Grill/Griddle (model number BRTGG0100), which it imported from China-based manufacturer YouO Electric Appliances Co. Ltd.  HSN was the exclusive retailer for the product, and sold some 27,000 units between April 30 and May 6 of this year at an approximate price point of $100.

W. P. Appliances, Inc., has received four reports of electrical shock and two reports of melted plastic housing, due to a defect in the appliance’s electrical wiring that can pose a risk of overheating.  The importer has established a toll-free number (1-855-666-0478) to assist customers, and will reimburse them for the full purchase price of the product (including sales tax and shipping and handling).  Kansas City infoZine  Nov. 11, 2011
