Upside-Down Tomato Plants: Innovation or Crock?

April 6th, 2010 | Comments Off | Posted in Suppliers

The jury is still out on the utility and productivity of upside-down gardening, but this much is certain — QVC helped start the fad.  Their co-conspirator is Bill Felknor, an inventor from Knoxville, Tenn., who has sold millions of Topsy Turvy gardening products since they first appeared on the shopping network in 2003.  If you’re inclined to give bottoms-up tomatoes a try, know this: they require a lot of watering and yields are generally low.  Philly.com Apr. 6, 2010

QVC Merchandiser Tells Jewelry Designer to Dig Deep…

April 5th, 2010 | Comments Off | Posted in Suppliers

John Atencio

Colorado-based jewelry designer John Atencio gives kudos to his QVC buyer in remarks to The Denver Post.  The owner and operator of five high-end stores in Colorado initally brought the network an entirely new look for his accessible, TV-friendly line.  But the tough-as-nails QVC folks said that wouldn’t do.  They pressed him to go all out, knocking himself off.  When he cleared that hurdle, Atencio was shipped off to QVC school, before earning his wings and pitching on the network.  The result: a sellout during his February premiere.  Denver Post Apr. 4, 2010
