The successful fundraising drive took place earlier this week during a three-hour, dedicated show called, “Be Aware, Show You Care,” which featured a variety of products, donated by vendors and sold at special prices with net proceeds going to the UK-based charity Breast Cancer Care.  This year’s event bested last year’s tally by 15%.  Of the three on-air auctions, singer/musician Joe McElderry’s offer to perform several of his songs in a viewers home raised the most (£6,350).  He will perform for the family and friends of a Liverpool girl.  CallCentre Helper (UK)   Oct. 19, 2011

 

Along with some 200 other designers, Carolyn Pollack is donating product from her inventory to QVC for sale during the network’s Super Saturday event, during which viewers will have the chance to purchase items at half the manufacturer’s suggested retail price.  Net proceeds from the items purchased by QVC shoppers will be donated to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF).  Pollack’s gift is a quantity of 440 handcrafted sterling silver and turquoise necklaces produced by her Albuquerque-based company Relios specifically for the event.  The quantity has a retail value of over $100,000.  Last year’s QVC Super Saturday event raised $3.4 million for OCRF.  Carolyn Pollack Jewelry Press Release Jul. 29, 2010

At a recent luncheon, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Pinellas County, Fla., honored HSN and its employees for their philanthropic work serving at-risk youngsters in Pinellas County, Florida.  More than 50 HSN staff members are involved with the nonprofit organization, making donations and mentoring at-risk youngsters at the Thurgood Marshall Fundamental Middle School in St. Petersburg, Fla.  The retailer also provides corporate support.  Largo Leader (FL) Jun. 30, 2010
