Which TV Costume Designer is On Deck with a New Apparel Line?
Patricia Field, who designed costumes for the television series Sex and the City seemed to start the trend when she collaborated with Marks and Spencer on a one-off, 35-piece collection in October 2008. She also pitched a “Destination Style New York” collection on HSN that fall. Now Janie Bryant, costume designer for AMC’s Mad Men, is launching Janie Bryant Mod, her own independent clothing collection, on QVC. Assisting Bryant in the development of a licensing program since last fall has been Matchbook Company, a US licensing agency. “After the launch of Mod, Ms Bryant and Matchbook plan to develop a men’s wear collection and a women’s wear line for 2011 and 2012, while evening wear and home design will also be explored.” So who is next in the line-up of costume-designer stars? Hard to say for sure, but Randall Christensen, costume designer of Dancing with the Stars, is also working with Matchbook. Financial Times Jul. 15, 2010

Forbes Riley to Debut Active Wear for Plus-Sized Women on HSN
Forbes Riley, an actress, TV personality and member of the National Fitness Hall of Fame, will premiere a new line of stylish, plus-size, fitness apparel for fuller-figured women on HSN. The line is meant to address a chicken-and-egg-type dilemma some fuller-figured women feel about working out. They want to get to the gym, ride a cycle or take aerobics, but they don’t want to wear the baggy sweatpants or drab, shapeless tops that — for too long — have seemingly been the only active wear choices for plus-size women. Mindy Grossman, HSN’s ceo, describes the expected appeal of the new line this way, “Women all across the country of varying shapes and sizes can finally feel empowered and ready to embark on the challenge of getting themselves fit and healthy while looking slim and stylish, even before their first sit-up!” “Love My Body” Active Wear by Forbes Riley Press Release Jul. 10, 2010
Bosom Buddy Winkee to Return to QVC, July 9th
The Winkee is a triangular mock camisole that preserves a measure of modesty by discretely covering the cleavage of even the most plunging neckline without ruining the drape or line of the garment. It was conceived by Patricia Calamari of Boca Raton, Fla., who didn’t want to wear an entire extra layer of clothing when all she was after was a little covering up. It is also intended for women who want to present a more buttoned-up look for daytime, business hours, but turn on a dime and present a sexier, more glamorous look for evening. Well, “The Ultimate Solution For Plunging Necklines” must have sold well during its first visit at QVC; it returns July 9th at noon ET. Sun Sentinel (Ft. Lauderdale, FL)
