Skineez compression shapewear garments contain a patented formula of anti-cellulite and moisturizing ingredients, including retinol, caffeine, red algae extract, shea butter, apricot kernel oil, rose hip oil and vitamin E. The combination of ingredients is meant to moisturize, firm, energize, lift, smooth, and tighten the skin as the garment is worn. These new Skineez products, which the company touts as “skincare that you wear,” will appear on HSN, July 15th and 16th. I imagine the HSN legal staff is double-checking all the product claims — there’s a host of them in the press release — but I sure hope the alliterative “Tummy Tuck Technology” passes muster. Brands Lure Shoppers with a Trip Down Memory Lane
In the midst of hard economic times, brands as diverse as Keds, Halston and Eddit Bauer are turning out heritage lines so consumers can assuage their anxiety by grabbing hold of something comforting and familiar. And some of those consumers are paying a premium for the privilege; L. L. Bean, for instance, charges about 25 percent more for its “Signature” pieces. Even cereal makers are getting in on the act. Earlier this year, General Mills sold Lucky Charms and Cheerios in limited-edition vintage boxes. The New York Times Jun. 11, 2010

Sure, the movie has been panned to smithereens even by fans of the original TV show, but SATC 2 does offer savvy viewers the chance to guess which uncredited designer created this piece of apparel or that piece of jewelry. Perhaps more important, according to Cynthia Sliwa, writing at JCK Online, the movie conveys several key marketing messages about jewelry — about its romance, its universal, cross-cultural appeal, and its ability to add one-of-a-kind distinctiveness to the wearer. UK Newspaper Advises on World Cup Football-Inspired Fashions
One of the recommendations, coming under the heading of “subtle support,” is a Butler & Wilson Crystal Union Jack bangle, offered for sale for £76.50 at QVC UK. Coming under “fearless fan” are such things as a Union Jack scarf (pictured left). The Flintshire Chronicle (UK) Jun. 7, 2010
Chock One Up for Cosmo Kramer — Shapewear Like the “Manzeer” and “Bro” Score at Retail
Tummy-tucking support garments called Spanx for Men have arrived at Bloomingdale’s, Saks Fifth Avenue and Nordstrom. At Neiman Marcus, where they have been on sale for some time, the products are selling out as quickly as they arrive. One underwear purveyor described men’s shapewear as “the next big thing.” There is even a profile-enhancing garment that has been likened to a women’s push-up bra, but it’s too embarrassing to describe further here. You have to go to the source link for yourself. The New York Times May 28, 2010

Actually, the NYT describes the new “maxi” look (spotted in NYC this spring) as “long, lean and willowy.” It is often combined with military-style jackets, chunky boots and, well, may not be for the core home shopping customer. “Sharon Graubard, a senior executive with Stylesight, a trend forecasting firm in New York, predicted that while the maxi trend is “forward” — that is, positioned well outside the mainstream — it would be adopted by “the same cutting-edge girls who first embraced the micro-mini” and would pick up steam as fall approaches.” The New York Times May 26, 2010
Apparently, the couture furrier, who moonlights designing and selling ready-to-wear, faux furs on QVC, cares greatly about the proper handling and storage of his wares. All coats — at price points high and low — should be hung on custom hangers when put away for any length of time. For quick comings and goings they should be hung on a handy coat rack, and never slung over a piece of furniture. Got that? The New York Times Dec. 7, 2009
Beginning in the fall of next year, QVC will distribute Liz Claiborne’s New York brand of apparel, which is produced in collaboration with designer Isaac Misrahi. Dow Jones Newswires Oct. 8, 2009
To the history of brand-on-brand slug-fests must be added a couple of robe/blanket hybrids whose wearers can only consider sweatpants, hoodies and moo moos too fashion-forward for such salt-of-the-earth persons as themselves. Coke/Pepsi and Boeing/Airbus, move over. Company in the annals of marketing rivalries is coming in the blob-like forms of the Slanket and Snuggie. Continue reading »
